Getting Started with MOOC Development


Faculty interested in developing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) should begin by scheduling an initial consultation with the Extended Studies MOOC team by emailing moocs@umd.edu. This discussion will help determine the scope of the proposed MOOC, evaluate course selection parameters, and outline next steps in the development and approval process.

As a starting point, faculty are encouraged to review the MOOCs Revenue Sharing Guidelines and the current list of MOOC offerings (coming soon). These resources provide insight into the financial structure of the program and examples of previously approved courses.

Following the initial consultation, EXST will provide access proposal and contract forms required for submission to the MOOC Advisory Board and the hosting platform(s). These materials, along with any necessary financial documentation, require Central Authentication Service (CAS) access and will be shared based on the specific needs of the proposed course or course series.
