Scheduling Overview
Extended Studies (EXST) has developed the following Scheduling, Budgeting, Faculty Contracting, and Payroll Instructions for Summer Session 2025 (term = 2505/2507).
Summer Session is made up of six sub-sessions, two 6-weeks in length and four that are 3-weeks in length and is a part of the approved semester-based academic calendar. Each sub-session has specific start and end date with corresponding technical, record integrity and business-related specifications. As such, non-standard undergraduate offerings must occur within the scheduled sessions and are permitted so long as they satisfy the required MHEC contact hours. Students enroll to prevent academic dismissal and/or as prerequisites for fall courses; for these reasons, courses cannot extend beyond the published end date of Session II. In addition, undergraduate courses may not begin earlier than the first day of Summer Session I.
Departments enter Summer Session course proposals into the Student Information System (SIS) in two phases.
- Phase I: Begins with the activation of the online scheduling system during which time departments enter course offerings that will appear on Testudo in mid-November.
- Phase II: Begins with departments entering course budgetary data into the EXST Budgets and Contracts System for submission to college-level approvers.
Potential Late Calendar Changes
Due to late decisions to close the University around major holidays like Juneteenth and July 4th, the summer session may unexpectedly be shortened. Instructors should plan for such occurrences when developing their course schedule for the upcoming Summer Session.
